“Psychic City/Ghost Edition” is a series of works on paper from 2017 made from screen prints of red, gold and black inks on multiple sheets of Japanese rice paper that are layered on top of each other and then soaked in my homemade beeswax/dammar/carnauba wax encaustic.
Each sheet of paper is printed on the front and back so when the wax penetrates the fibers the image on the reverse side bleeds through.
The effect of the multiple sheets layered creates a beautiful “Ghost” image of the buildings, hence the title of the series.
The 3 sometimes 4 sheets of paper are combined that make the piece into a nice thick-coated object that resemble an old map or star chart. This process also creates a totally unique work even when the same screen is used in multiple works.
The finished print is cropped and hand buffed.
This piece is titled "Collision Town". It is inspired by when the city one lives in and the city in one's dream collide. It is a tribute to the side effects of the psychic noise one is subjected to after a couple of decades of living within a metropolis.
"Collision Town" is floated in it’s own handmade, custom frame of mahogany stained and waxed wood with gold trim accent. The frame is finished off with a sheet of clear plexi-glass for protection. The plexi is removable in case of any unfortunate damage or if the collector prefers glass.
The handmade frames are created to fit the individual piece, which ensures that each finished work is an absolute one of a kind and unique piece.
Each piece is wired and ready to hang. The back of the frame is signed as well as the back of the print if ever it was to be removed or re-framed.
